silver needle case and bodkin - Austria

versione italiana
silver needle case and bodkin this silver needle case has importation marks for Prague, period 1872/1902.
The case is fully embossed with floral motifs in Art Nouveau taste and contains a needle similarly decorated.
The needle is known in English as 'bodkin'. They date from the 17th century, often with just a makers mark. The scoop part at the end was to take wax from the ear to wax the cord or cotton that the person was using, waterproofed it and made easier its use
The needle case is 3 1/4 in. long (cm. 8) and was bought from an Italian dealer at an Antique fair.

This item is not for sale, but most of my pieces were bought through the Internet. On the right bar of this page there are some links to silver and antique dealers websites
